Barnsley heritage reflects its long and complex history and includes a legacy of buildings, structures, distinctive places and archaeological sites.
Barnsley’s built heritage is particularly associated with Barnsley’s medieval past, its Georgian designed landscapes, its Victorian buildings and its industrial history of coal mining, metalworking, textile production, brick making, and glass manufacture.
Barnsley Civic Trust celebrates the built heritage of Barnsley. It has a particular interest in its conservation areas and listed buildings and wishes to protect and conserve them as well as campaigning for those at risk to be saved for future generations.
