We are organising a programme of public debates on key issues facing the town centre, with expert speakers and local representatives covering issues that affect us for example, modern architecture, regeneration, pubs and drinking culture, conservation areas, the importance of good schools, attracting new shops and transport.
Future of Conservation Areas
The third big debate on conservation areas is taking place on Wednesday 25th November 2009. NUM Miners Hall, Victoria Road, Barnsley. Everyone welcome. Doors open at 6pm.
A constructive debate which will explore the requirements of conservations areas and the future role. Including: What is a conservation area? What preservations are required? Who writes the policy? How can the future of conservation areas be best managed?
On the Panel: Tony Burton (National Civic Society Initiative), Archie Sinclair (Retired Conservation Manager), Tony Wild (Assistant Conservation Officer), Richard Vivian (The Green Shoots), Stephen Morely (Assistant Director of Planning & Transportation, BMBC).
Parking, buses and safety: the transport debate
“Remaking Barnsley: the Transport Debate” took place at the Lucorum, Barnsley, on Thursday 26th June 2008. With around 50 people taking part, and a panel of local experts, the subject proved lively, as well as controversial.
The debate created a constructive discussion, which explored all of the travel issues facing a fast developing town like Barnsley.
Participants raised concerns about the flexibility of public transport services, looked at car parking problems in residential streets surrounding the town and the safety of pedestrians walking, especially school children. A full report will be published soon.

The first Big Debate - Barnsley uncovered! The evening economy in town - took place on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at 6pm until 7.30pm at Lucorum, George Yard, Barnsley.
